Virginia Frontier

This free, one-day field trip was attended by 4th through 11th grade students from public, private, and home school organizations.
 
Campers:
 
  • Learned about the different stages of frontier settlement with an emphasis on Virginia and its geographic regions
  • Discovered daily life as it was lived on the frontier by pioneer children
  • Experienced frontier chores and games
  • Learned how Pioneer homes were built, how food and clothing were obtained, how children were educated, and how the frontier economy evolved
  • Created and published a two-page newsletter including digital pictures from the day's frontier activities using laptop computers in the Multimedia Learning Center
